On November 14th, 2018 just weeks before Thanksgiving, a senior living community in Vero Beach, FL experienced a broken pipe in the ceiling. When residents thought of the upcoming holiday, there is no doubt noisy equipment and workers in hard-hats were not part of their plans. Complicating the situation further, the location where the pipe burst was adjacent to the dining room and kitchen, two of the most used areas in any senior living facility. The kitchen and dining room were essential parts of operating the facility so shutting them down while mitigation and restoration took place was out of the question. The facility needed to continue running, meaning the kitchen and dining room needed to remain operational throughout the entire clean-up and restoration process.

SRM crews started immediately mitigating the water damage and preparing the property for restoration. Knowing that kitchen staff and residents could not use the space with drying equipment placed, the crews worked to remove the equipment and reset it before and after each meal service. In addition, the SRM experts worked around all resident schedules for events and activities other than just meal services. The expert technicians were able to construct temporary repairs and facades to provide residents with a pleasing environment while restoration was completed. Residents and staff were extremely grateful they did not have to live in a construction project and the temporary precautions were able to make it feel more like home again.

To add to the complications, while working in the facility a secondary source of damage was discovered due to a leaking soda machine. The leak had caused mold growth around and behind the machine which was leading to a foul odor and creating a potential health risk to the residents. SRM was able to increase the equipment and personnel accordingly to remain on schedule, regardless of the added remediation required.

Even with the demanding situation of having to move and reset each and every piece of equipment, the reduced drying time available and the logistics of working around staff and residents, SRM was able to complete the restoration, including all aspects of reconstruction, under the tight timeline. In addition, the residents were able to enjoy the holidays at home with minimal disruption due to the thoughtful restoration plan. In the end, the facility client was extremely happy and relieved.
